The Future is Bright
Posted at 11:31 pm | Filed under Life, Musings

For the first time in possibly my whole life, I’m in a really good mood about the future. The change we need is on it’s way, although I know it will take a long time to occur I am more optimistic and excited than worried. I can’t help but smile when I think about it. He didn’t just win by a simple 270, he won by over 300! The people have spoken, and the time is now.

My supervisor from the Red Cross told me today that she’s pregnant, and it couldn’t be a more perfect time to be so. History was made last night, and she, being in Chicago, got to go to the Obama rally in Grant Park and be a part of it, her unborn child there with her. It’s such a beautiful thought and I’m so, so happy for her. I’m so, so happy for America.

Election Day
Posted at 11:01 pm | Filed under Life

I’ve done my civic duty. The first thing I did this morning, after eating breakfast, was go to the polls with my grandmother and cast my vote for Obama. Then, I went home, took a nap, went to class, and then to the Dollars & Sense magazine meeting. I went to dinner, then home.

Now, I am watching the election results unfold on both TV and CNN.com and seeing everyone’s reactions via Twitter and Facebook (social media is quite addicting) and I have to say, I am so excited! This is the first Presidential election I’ve gotten to vote in, which also definitely ups the excitement-factor. (I was 17 last election, unfortunately.)

As I type, Obama has just won Virginia, putting him at 220 electoral votes. I’m pretty certain that he’ll be getting California, Oregon, Washington, and Hawaii, which will put him at 297. Looks like we have this in the bag! Where’s the champagne?

Getting to the Polls
Posted at 8:34 pm | Filed under Rants

I wish voting in elections were more convenient. I’m sure this is the reason that not everyone actually goes to cast their opinion, and it’s frustrating. I know I’m going to have a hell of a time getting to the polls. I have class from 2:30-5:25 pm, and a meeting for the magazine I’m a designer on that starts at 4:30 and I have no idea when that will end. (And, yes, I realize these already overlap. I was going to leave my class early to make the meeting.) Which means I won’t be getting home till possibly 8 or 9 pm, depending on that meeting. I suppose I could always leave early, but it’s kind of pressing that I be present at the whole meeting. Thus, I’ll have to try to get to the polls early and vote before I have to go to class. To get to class on time, I have to be on the 1 o’clock bus. What I’m afraid of is going to the polls and having it take some ungodly amount of time to actually get to the machine and vote, missing my bus and then being late for class, which would make my asking to be excused early pointless because it’ll be like being absent from class. Grr!

I guess I’ll figure it out tonight before bed, and ask my grandmother when she plans to go vote. I WILL FIND A WAY!

Meeting People to Date
Posted at 11:07 pm | Filed under Life, Musings

Where is one supposed to meet people, these days? With my ridiculous work/school schedule, I don’t really have time to go out to bars or clubs, nor do I even like the kinds of guys I meet there. I’m involved with activities at school already, and in some things outside of school. I’m even part of a dating website. And, no luck. There’s no good fish in my neck of the sea, apparently.

Not that I am desperate, but it just dawns on me how incredibly difficult it is to find someone you really, really like, are compatible and want to be with. And once you find those people, or that person, there’s no guarantee it will last, even if you try everything within your power to make it so. Kind of sad, when you think about it too much.

November is Lots of Things
Posted at 11:24 am | Filed under Updates

Hope everyone had an enjoyable Halloween last night, I know I did. :) (I went to the Greenwich Village Halloween Parade, and then out for dinner, dessert, and wine with friends.) But now it’s November, and you know what that means? Lots of things going on…

Firstly, November is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). I have a few friends that participate, including Olga, but I haven’t done it myself. (Mostly because I’m way to busy with school to consider it!) I know Olga’s taking a week off from work when the new World of Warcraft expansion comes out because she can’t handle writing, working, and leveling to 80. I wish I could take such a break from classes!

With that being said, yes, Wrath of the Lich King drops November 13th. I’m going to be über-geek-lame and try to level 70-80 in less than two weeks.

The day after that, November 14th, is World Diabetes Day. This is only it’s second year, so I’m very excited to participate and help raise awareness about the epidemic of Diabetes around the world. Wear blue!

Besides the World, there’s also American Diabetes Month.

Last, but not least, is National Blog Posting Month (NaBloPoMo), which is obviously inspired by NaNoWriMo. This one, I believe, actually takes place every month with a new topic or theme to inspire bloggers. However, it doesn’t appear that there’s one for November! So I guess I can write whatever I want. :P I’m going to attempt to participate this year. (Read: attempt!) Should be interesting to try to blog every day, when I usually only do it weekly. Stay tuned!

So, dear readers! Are you participating in any of these?
