What does they want with Mordor?
Absolutely Precious - A Web Directory was created in late 2003. Its purpose is to list links to different kinds of sites.
If it isn't obvious yet, this site's inpsired by Gollum, the character from the book-turned-movie The Lord Of The Rings. When I first read The Hobbit, the prequel to the LOTR trilogy, I was fascinated by his character. There was just something about him forgetting what a sun is and how he eats goblins for dinner. He's so adorable! Andy Serkis played him beautifully in The Two Towers and The Return Of The King. His performance made me love Gollum even more. I love him so much, I decided I wanted to make a web site that features Gollum and the first thing that came to mind was a link directory.
The thought of making a fan site or fan listing never occured to me until days later when I was ready to pull all my hair out trying to figure out how to code an entire link directory from scratch. From scratch! I wanted to "learn by doing" and that's why I never resorted to using premade scripts. Being a beginner in PHP and MySQL during that time, you can imagine how hard that was for me. I'm not the kind of person to leave things unfinished so I stuck to it.
As for the title, I wanted it to begin with an "A" and have the most-used word in Gollum's vocabulary, "precious", somewhere in it. "A" because some sites list their links in alphabetical order and I want AP to be listed on top or near the top. Shallow, I know. So, "Absolutely Precious" was chosen.

Originally, this is a premade design offered at my site, Blinding-Light.COM. This version, however, has a sidebar while the original does not. It features several Gollum sketches which I scanned from the book I bought, The Lord Of The Rings GOLLUM How We Made Movie Magic authored by Andy Serkis.
And, to add to the feel of having Gollum around, some of his lines from the movie were added in the headers of this site. For those who are offended or are confused by them, I repeat, they are lines from the movie. They do not refer to you.
